Popis: An electrical discharge starting signal is required in advance of prism alignment for operating a rotating prism laser Q switch. Prism alignment time marking pulses obtained by a single sensor can be used to provide the desired advance pulses, independent of prism speed. A method of achieving this with a single electronic analog operation of high inherent stability is described. A complete circuit design, based on this method, is included. A timing stability of 1 μsec over the prism cycle range of 2–10 msec is achieved. Maximum time advance is 1.5 msec, and the output is adequate to fire most high power lasers.
