| Popis: | The human transferrin (Tf) gene has been characterized by Southern blot hybridization. The coding sequence of transferrin is contained in a gene of about 13 to 17 Kbp located on chromosome 3. Restriction fragment length polymorphisms of Tf have been observed in PvuII and ECORI digests. A sequence homologous to human transferrin has been identified in Pyura, a prochordate which was found to possess a primordial transferrin gene. The Pyura Tf gene is much smaller than the human gene. Hybridization studies indicate that the Pyura Tf DNA sequence is homologous to the human Tf gene throughout the entire coding sequence. In situ hybridization localizes the expression of Pyura Tf in the primitive digestive glands and in unfertilized eggs. |
