Popis: With the increasing demand for oil and gas resources, the regions of interest for seismic exploration are inevitably transferring from flat topography to rugged topography. In the case of physical models involving rugged topography, the seismic data are directly acquired on the solid surface - the contact approach - it is often difficult to achieve good coupling of transducers. In addition, data acquisition using the contact approach is also very time-consuming and almost impractical. To solve these problems, we propose a non-contact approach for physical modelling on rugged topographical models based on wavefield reconstruction. A water layer is added to the model with rugged topography, and data are acquired on the water surface, following the conventional acquisition approach for plane surface models. Both the sources and receivers are then numerically extrapolated down to the rough surface to simulate the data acquired with the contact approach. This non-contact approach can reduce the difficulty of physical modelling experiment on rugged topography, improve data acquisition efficiency and data accuracy due to the improved coupling. However, careful extrapolation procedures are required to reduce numerical errors. Both contact and non-contact data acquisition is conducted on models with rugged topography to verify this approach.
