This paper analyzes and criticizes the proposal made by Brown, Lum, and Voyle (this issue) that calls for a reappraisal of Roe's Theory of Personality Development. Brown et al. present the thesis that Roe's theory has been misunderstood and misapplied largely in terms of investigators’ failures to recognize adequately that the link between early childhood treatment (i.e., needs satisfaction) and resulting interpersonal orientations (i.e., resulting needs structure)which influence the choice of career fields and must be included in order to effectively predict the effect of early parental treatment. While acknowledging that common deficiency, in this paper I point out that other serious problems with Roe's theory exist. |
