Popis: The total cost of weeds in soybean (Glycine max L.) production in the USA is about $3.0 billion each year. About four dozen weed species contribute to the yield losses and reductions in soybean seed quality. Crop rotations and cultural practices are beneficial to a successful weed management program but herbicides are the primary component of most successful control programs. Practically all soybeans are treated with herbicides each year. Preemergence soil treatments have been used more extensively than postemergence treatments but the usage of postemergence treatments is increasing and there is a slight decline in the use of preemergence treatment. The total amount of herbicide applied annually peaked in the 1980s and has declined slightly thereafter. The trend toward increased use of postemergence treatments will probably continue especially as increased use is made of conservation tillage practices.
