Popis: Acute appendicitis in infants is a very rare disease. We experienced a 52-day-old infant who had a right side abdominal tumor. The abscess was found to be due to perforation of an acute inflamed appendix. Bacteriological examinaion identified Escherichia coli and bacteroides in the abscess fluid. In our case, at operation we found an edge of the perforated appendix root, and closed it. In the postoperative course we had no problem, but there was slight wound infection. In Japan 10 cases of infantile appendicitis have been repoted without this case. In all cases there was perforation, which was their most characteristic feature.
