Popis: | Transactions of the Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society, 33, 45-58 David James Vaughan was born in St. Martin's Vicarage, Leicester, on 2 August 1825. His father, Edward Thomas Vaughan, was, at the time, Vicar ,of St. Martin's and Rector of Foston. He died four years later, leaving behind him a family of fourteen, of which David was one of the youngest. After her husband's death Mrs. Vaughan, a daughter of John Pares, chief proprietor of Pares' Leicestershire Banking Company, removed to a house close by Pares' Bank, which� stJood on the site now occupied by the St. Martin's branch of the Westminster Bank. Here, within little more than a stone's throw of St. Martin's church, David spent most of his childhood and youth. |
