Popis: The development of horizontal wells for conventional oil and gas has, in part, made possible operation within both the Arctic and deep-water, which have provided the majority of the resources identified since the year 2000. Indeed, the majority of these are natural gas sources that will contribute significantly to satisfy the global energy demand. Both give rise to considerable engineering challenges that include their recovery from hostile cold environments that which expatiates the problems associated with the formation of clathrate hydrates, which, incidentally, are also a potential additional resource estimated to contain many times the volume of methane of the known conventional gas. In addition, we also describe another less well-considered source of natural gas, namely geothermal-geopressurised methane, which is estimated to contain more than 104 times the volume of conventional gas, and which has potential synergies with geothermal energy.
