Popis: | This paper attempts to present the devising of the Matrix converter and an AC-DC-AC converter along with their working principle and control mechanisms. Both of these converters are AC-AC converters and are primarily used in cases where frequency of the out-put AC signal needs to be regulated with respect to the input. The principle of superposition is used by the matrix converter and is deployed to provide a bidirectional power flow. This also aims to eliminate the need for large DC link capacitors. Subsequently, the control algorithm is more complex. An AC-DC-AC converter on the other hand engages switched mode power conversion to first convert the input AC power to DC and then convert it back to AC using a PWM inverter. We also aim at understanding the applications of both the converters with respect to their performance under various conditions. |
