The employment of multiconnected and regular mesh topologies suits the requirements of high throughput and reliability in future metropolitan and wide area fibre-based communication networks. Bidirectional Manhattan Street Network (BMSN) and Shuffle Net (SN) are four-connected topologies implementing the logical layout of the so-called Multichannel MANs. This paper focuses on an outstanding issue of Multichannel MANs, namely the setting up of a broadcast service. Two different strategies are proposed to perform the delivery of broadcast packets in both BMSN and SN. The comparison is accomplished on the basis of throughput and delay parameters as determined by simulation. |
