Popis: | Ion beam irradiation as one of the effective methods of polymer modification has been used on the PET films. The ion beam used was Li+3(50 MeV) of various fluences. The Vickers' hardness of the films irradiated at different ion fluences was measured. The hardness tests on each film were carried out at different loads. The true bulk hardness of the film is obtained at loads greater than 400 mN. The irradiation has been found to significantly increase the hardness of the film. The increase follows a linear trend with the fluence and has been explained in terms of crosslinking effected by electronic stopping mode of the ions. |
