Popis: •. Benign diseases of the peritoneum and its reflections may be either diffuse processes or more discrete lesions; the latter may be solid or cystic.•. Diffuse processes, such as infection or inflammation, produce ascites and mesenteric oedema. The clinical presentation and the site of origin of the abnormality may aid diagnosis.•. Discrete solid lesions include sclerosing mesenteritis, mesenteric desmoid tumour, plexiform neurofibromatosis and lipoma.•. Discrete cystic lesions include congenital cysts, such as lymphangioma, duplication, and enteric and mesothelial cysts, but also benign cystic tumours such as cystic teratoma and benign cystic peritoneal mesothelioma.•. Cross‐sectional imaging has an important role in percutaneous abscess drainage and guiding biopsy of solid lesions.
