Being the second stage of the fourfold translation motion, “aggression” indicates the translator’s textual perception and comprehension. Steiner declared this motion as an unavoidable mark of attack. Lefevere also pointed out that translation functions in a given culture at a given time. The way they understand themselves and their culture is one of the factors that may influence the way in which they translate. The translator’s intention and preference are involved in this stage. Many typical cases are employed to exemplify the “aggression” in translating. |
