Popis: The structure of the phase Ti5S8 (rhombohedral) has been determined. It is based on a close packing of sulfur of the type cchh; the octahedral holes between adjacent cc sulfur layers and between adjacent hh layers are fully occupied by Ti, while the octahedral holes between adjacent ch layers are partly (1/5) occupied by metal atoms. The unit-cell dimensions of Ti3S4 (rhombohedral) and Ti4S5 (hexagonal or trigonal) are given.
