Popis: The Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method has been used to detect pathogenic microorganisms or the special target microorganisms in environmental water or soil samples(Steffan and Atlas, 1988, Bej et al., 1990, Lampel et al., 1990, Bessesen et al., 1990, Bej et al., 1991). It is considered that PCR offers a highly-sensitive method for the detection of genetically-modified microorganisms (GEMMOs). While some approaches have been made for the quantitative enumeration of GEMMOs, these are rather qualitative than quantitative. To monitor the behavior of released GEMMOs in the environment, quantification of the surviving or persistent population of GEMMOs is necessitated. In this study, the combined method of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and the most probable number (MPN) was used, to improve the use of PCR as a quantitative method.
