This chapter reviews the psychometric data on the Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS), and uses of the CAFAS instrument for treatment planning, treatment monitoring, and outcome assessment. The CAFAS is used for a variety of purposes. the chapter provides a means for actively managing cases by periodically assessing progress toward specified goals(s), and classifying cases for use with specific treatment protocols. The CAFAS measures impairment in day-to-day functioning in children and adolescents who have, or may be at risk for developing, emotional, behavioral, substance use, psychiatric, or psychological problems. The CAFAS computer system generates two administrative reports that collapse data across clients for a time period specified by the user. Interrater reliability of the CAFAS has been assessed with lay raters and with front-line staff. Simultaneous multiple regressions were also conducted to compare the predictive power of the CAFAS to the presence or absence of common diagnoses. |
