Popis: This chapter discusses the process of exploiting online games in education, specifically early primary school. For that matter the WeAreEurope game is presented as an example, including all the steps from capturing the idea to eventually implementing and testing the game. This chapter provides theoretical ground on citizenship education, focusing on the EU context, which triggered the game idea. A literature review led to the design of two frameworks, for the key competences for citizenship education and digital game design, respectively, which provided the design pillars of the game. Through it, students are able to develop all the elements which characterize an active EU citizen. This chapter discusses the game design, structure, and integrated functionalities and facilities, clearly explaining all the choices made and describing the gamification elements. Furthermore, a complementary implementation guide is presented, including learning goals and various teaching approaches which are correlated with the official curricula, along with corresponding, full lesson plans. Preliminary feedback from the pilot testing of the game highlighted how the design was successful and pinpoints the usefulness of the guide. Finally, other exploitation ideas for such games are discussed, thus providing added value to this chapter by allowing it to serve as a good practice example for similar actions.
