Popis: More than 100 species of nontuberculous atypical mycobacteria have been described. Most of them are harmless environmental saprophytes, however, some species may be the cause of chronic progressing skin infections, without any tendency to clear spontaneously. Two typical cases are described here, and the current diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to manage skin infections with atypical mycobacteria are discussed. In addition, numerous cases of skin infections with these agents described in the literature are referred, developed after plastic surgery, liposuction, endoscopy, insulin injections and acupuncture.
