Popis: Background: Malignant ventricular arrhythmias such as ventricular tachycardia (VT) or ventricular fibrillation (VF) in ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients are associated with adverse outcomes. However there is limited data amongst our local Asian population. Aim: To evaluate the incidence and predictors of malignant ventricular arrhythmias in Asian STEMI patients. Method: Retrospective analysis of a single centre STEMI registry from 2006–2009 was carried out. Baseline characteristics of 942 STEMI patients were analysed. Results: There were 942 STEMI patients analysed. Incidence of VT/VF was 10.6%. Prevalence of risk factors of Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, Hyperlipidaemia and smoking were similar. There were statistically significant differences in the VT/VF group with higher numbers of patients with triple vessel disease (32.0% vs 22.7%, p=0.038), Killip class >3 (46.0% vs 11.2%, p 3 was an independent predictor of developing VT/VF. Conclusion: Incidence of VT/VF amongst our patients was higher. Killip class >3 was an independent predictor of developing VT/VF.
