Antibody production of Dermatophagoides farinae (mite) in human tonsil are observed by means of plaque-forming cells (PFC), and radioimmuno assay without any in vitro stimulation. Tonsil tissues donated by patients allergic to mite are used for the experimental work. Antibody titer of sera from these patients is estimated by a hemagglutination test. Isolated tonsil lymphocytes are used for estimation of T, and B subpopulation. Direct, and indirect PFC assays are performed on human O-type red cells coupled with mite antigen. 131 I labelled mite antigen reacts with lymphocytes, and antigen binding cells are observed radioautographically. T cell, and B cell populations are 19.5–34.2, and 39.5–66.0 % respectively. Number of PFC in 2 × 10 6 cells are 3.2-9.2 × 10 2 . Radioautographic pictures are also demonstrated. In conclusion, palatine tonsils trap the mite antigen, inhalating foreign bodies, and actively produce antibodies. |
