Popis: | IT HAS BEEN well established that a relationship exists between the thyroid gland and the reproductive organs. Reiss and Pereny (1928) found that the threshold response of castrated rats to follicular hormone was raised during hyperthyroidism, and Weichert and Boyd (1933) and van Horn (1933) produced diestrus in normal rats by feeding thyroid gland. Halpem and Hendryson (1935) studied the effect of dinitrophenol on the estrous cycle of rats, but found only a slight increase in the length of the cycle, which they interpreted as being due to the toxicity of the drug. Varied interpretations have been given as to the mechanism by which thyroid feeding affects the estrous cycle, and the problem is complicated by the eifect of the concomitant loss of weight, and by the effect of food intake on the estrous cycle (Drill and Sherwood, 1938; Mulinos et al,1939). |
