Popis: | Jodies are cadence songs or chants which are performed in military training camps. Originally serving the traditional functions of work‐songs, the songs have been co‐opted and are now used by the institution as an instrument of socialization. Study of the jodies points up the rhetorical impact of literature as “equipment for living,” and shows how performance intensifies that impact. Further, the messages these songs convey raise ethical issues regarding the agenda of the military institution. |
