Popis: | A plate containing a circular hole, and reinforced by a patch may as a first approximation, be analysed by treating the reinforced structure as a plate containing an inclusion. This leads to a state of uniform stress in the inclusion. In this paper, an exact solution is obtained using a layered-plate theory where a general remote biaxial loading is split into a combination of hydrostatic tension and pure-shear. The focus is on the pure-shear component where it is found that the stress in the reinforcement over the hole is not uniform, contrary to the expectation from the two-dimensional inclusion analogy. |
