Popis: This paper presents a digital implementation of an out-of-plane target location system by means of a joint transform correlator (JTC). A sequence of images of the 3-D scene is coded into a single performing an integration of each frame in thevertical sense. The coded sequence is used as the input plane of the JTC after binarization; Fourier transform is performedfollowed by removal of the DC term from joint power spectrum; finally correlation is evaluated. Keywords: J.T.C, Optical Correlation, Non-linear J.T.C 1. INTRODUCTIONAn important problem in pattern recognition by optical correlation is the detection and location of targets in a three- dimensional (3-D) scene. In fact, because of the two-dimensional (2-D) nature of the optical images. it is always necessary to encode in 2-D. the 3-D information. Current optical techniques such as stereo vision, holography, tomography and interferometry among others, allow to obtain the spatial coordinates (Xv,:) of a scene: in principle one of these techniques canbe incorporated in any correlator architecture by permitting detection and location of an object.Recently J. Rosen2. has shown by computer simulation, that it is possible to localize the spatial full coordinates of targetsusing a linear jomt transform correlator (JTC)'. Based on his work we have implemented a digital JTC. whose l)(' tenhl of thejoint power spectrum (JPS) is removed, and thus a higher signal to noise ratio is obtained.
