Popis: | A study of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts prepared by the electroless deposition (ED) of PtCl62- on a carbon support is presented. The ED procedure used functionalized carbon that was seeded with a precursor (Pd or Rh) and dimethylamine borane (DMAB) as the reducing agent and citrate as the stabilizing agent. It is shown that the DMAB concentration and precursor loading affect the rate of ED proportionally and that high pH conditions inhibit ED. Over our concentration range, the citrate had no effect on rate of ED. The ED catalyst was characterized using transmission electron microscopy, cyclic voltammetry and these revealed that smaller particles with greater surface area could be synthesized with ED. However, no increase on ORR activity was observed. |
