Popis: A study of the acoustic wave attenuation in berlinite (a-AlPO4) has been performed to evaluate the potential of this material as an alternative to quartz in microwave acoustic applications. Measurements of the attenuation of bulk acoustic waves in berlinite has been obtained using an electromagnetic cavity resonator. Insertion loss measurements were also performed on SAW delay lines on berlinite. High attenuation and losses were observed whichwere due most likely to the presence of water in the as-grown samples.
