Popis: | Thermal and compositional homogenization in a steel ladle is effected by bath agitation induced by top or bottom purging with an inert gas like nitrogen/argon. For effective mixing, leading to the minimization of thermal and compositional stratification, optimization of the process and operating variables involved is desired. Instead of going for difficult and expensive “hot” trials on a plant scale, modelling appears to be an elegant tool. Mathematical modelling of such a complex situation is often difficult and, hence, room temperature physical modelling is usually an attractive alternative, if the results are analysed and interpreted properly.Water modelling was carried out in Tata Steel's RDamp;#x201C;slice” model (two-dimensional) followed by a three-dimension... |
