Popis: The ability to recognise unfamiliar faces is prone to error - two images of the same person can appear to belong to two different people, or two images of two different people can appear to belong to the same person. Research has shown that unfamiliar face recognition is severely and negatively affected by changes in appearance, including those brought about by facial aging. In contrast, the recognition of familiar faces is more robust, and, therefore, less likely to be affected by changes in age. There are, however, individual differences in face recognition. Research has demonstrated that some people show an exceptional ability to recognise faces; these individuals have been dubbed "super recognisers’". The proposed study has three aims. First, to examine whether super recognisers find it easier to adapt to changes in appearance brought about by aging than typical recognisers. Second, to assess whether the amount of exposure an individual has to a particular face affects how easily a person can identify the face in age-separated images. Finally, to examine whether super recognisers who are unfamiliar with the stimuli faces are comparable to the non-super recognisers who are familiar.
