Popis: IN THE course of experiments on the effects of hypothermia in the hen upon embryonic development (Sturkie, 1946), it was found that some of the hypothermic hens laid soft-shelled eggs, whereas others were unaffected by the low body-temperature. The report which follows concerns the effects of varying degrees and durations of hypothermia of hens upon ovulation and the passage of ova through the oviduct, with particular reference to the function of the uterus. MATERIALS AND METHODS It is known from the work of Warren and Scott (1935) and others that ovulation occurs in the domestic fowl, on the average, ½ hour after an egg is laid, and that ovulation and oviposition of an egg in the cycle may be estimated from the time of laying of the previous egg in hens of known clutch size.
