In the second part of the book, Wagner addresses the concrete case of institutional emergence in East Asia. Focussing on two regional institutions, ASEAN Plus Three (APT) and the East Asia Summit (EAS), the chapter offers an important insight into the particular historical context and political situation of their formation. In addition to giving an overview of the research process and analytical framework of a critical realist-informed critical discourse analysis, Wagner clarifies how to examine discourse as a mechanism and detect respective emergent properties and powers of APT and the EAS in the subsequent data analysis. |
