Due to their extraordinary optical and electronic character at low-dimensionality, two-dimensional (2D) layered selenides and tellurides are an actively-pursued area both in fundamental research and in applications. Recently non-equilibrium growth of 2D layered materials using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) has attracted widespread attention in the scientific community for realizing highly scaled technologies involving both novel device structures and new physics. Here we summarized our recent work on MBE growth of 2D layered selenides and tellurides, as well as their heterostructures, along with their characterization. This chapter also points out a number of challenges lying ahead in this field, and provides our viewpoint on what the future holds for MBE-grown 2D layered selenides and tellurides. |
