Popis:	The main purpose of the present review is to compile the recent literature with special focus on different aspects of Buccal drug delivery system (BDDS) that achieve significance place among novel drug deliveries. The main obstacles that drugs meet when administered via the buccal route derive from the limited absorption area and the barrier properties of the mucosa. The successful physiological removal mechanisms of the oral cavity that take the formulation away from the absorption site are the other obstacles that have to be considered. In this regard, this present review covers the areas of anatomy and nature of oral cavity mechanisms and theories of bioadhesion, mucoahesion, factors affecting the bio/mucoadhesive devices, in vitro and in vivo evaluation of novel buccal drug delivery systems, limitations of buccal drug administration.
