Popis:	Mycobacterium phlei has been shown by tracer techniques to utilize malonate in the biosynthesis of 6-methylsalicylic acid. The labeling pattern of 6-methylsalicylic acid obtained by chemical degradation is consistent with the acetate polymalonate biosynthetic pathway.
