Popis: This study deals with the soil-structure interaction induced by underground tunnels and surface structures subjected to SV waves using the finite element method (FEM). To this end, the surface structures’ lateral displacement and drift due to the effects of several dimensionless parameters, including the tunnel depth, the surface distance between the structure and the tunnel, and the number of surface structure’s stories were investigated. The Mohr–Coulomb yield criterion was taken into account as the soil constitutive model. According to the results, the underground tunnel increases the seismic response at short frequencies. Moreover, the tunnel depth reduction led to a more severe ground seismic response and seismic amplification. It is found that the effect of the soil-tunnel-structure interaction on the surface structure's displacements and drifts is dependent on the soil specifications, underground tunnel, number of stories, and input motion. Also, the distance of the structure from the tunnel axis had a more significant impact on the seismic response of structures than the tunnel depth, and its variations further influenced the seismic response.
