It is important to know what fraction of a regional air quality impact comes from sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides that are emitted by-fossil fuel power plants, as opposed to other sources. To meet this need, many theoretical models have been developed and evaluated to determine how well they are able to simulate atmospheric transport, diffusion and transformation processes. Schiermeier and Misra (1983) have reported the results of a joint U.S./Canadian studies, and Stewart et al. (1983) have evaluated a number of regional models for the National Park Service (NPS). This paper summarizes the results of a study that was undertaken jointly by SRI International, Argonne National Laboratory, and TRC Environmental Consultants for the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). A more comprehensive reporting of the results has been published by Ruff et al. (1984). |
