Indoor and outdoor empirical path loss of Ku-band signals

Popis: This paper presents empirical data on the indoor and the outdoor propagation loss for Ku-band frequencies of 13.7 GHz and 16 GHz. The Line-of-Sight (LOS) propagation involved 30 m office corridor for indoor and 105 m jogging track for outdoor. The blockage attenuation due to indoor materials and outdoor objects were also measured. It is found that 16 GHz signal has smaller path loss variation than 13.7 GHz for the indoor and the outdoor settings. It is also found that 16 GHz signal consistently has higher attenuation loss through indoor blockage and outdoor obstruction. These data can be used in wireless system's link budget to estimate network coverage or capacity.
