Preparation of higher adamantane homologues by reaction of adamantan-1-ol with heptenes in sulfuric acid

Popis:	Reaction of adamantan-1-ol with heptenes in conc. sulfuric acid affords a complicated mixture of hydrocarbons, containing heptyladamantanes, diheptyladamantanes, tetradecyladamantanes, diadamantylheptanes and adamantyl-heptyladamantylheptanes. The reaction mixture can be separated into narrower fractions containing hydrocarbons of approximately equal molecular weight. The method can be utilized for the preparation of technical mixtures of high-boiling alkyladamantanes.
