Popis: Among the many accounts of the Peninsular War (1808-1814) penned by foreign soldiers and travellers, British seminarian Robert Brindle's memoir offers a rather unique perspective on that conflict. Like other war narratives of this period, however, Brindle's memoir struggles to strike a balance between historical objectivity and romantic idealization. An analysis of this virtually unknown text underscores the significance of the testimonial literature on the Peninsular War in the development of a mythical view of Spain throughout the nineteenth century.
