Popis:	Progress of engineering education in India since independence five decades ago, its current status and challenges faced are presented in this paper. Some solutions to give a new thrust to engineering education in the future and make it more effective and responsive to world wide advances are also highlighted here. They coverformal/nonformal/distance/continuing education, R&D, industry-institution interaction and quality assurance.
