Popis: An analysis is made of the problem of elastic stresses in glass-fiber preforms with radial variation of the thermal expansion coefficient. Stresses in the fibers are identical with those with the preforms. The birefringence calculated from the stress distribution agrees with the experimental results and can be used to determine the average concentration of the dopants (B2O3, GeO2).
