Popis: | Although it is widely recognized that sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are a major international health problem, a connection between the use of a specific contraceptive method and the occurrence of genital tract infection often goes unrecognized. The bulk of STDs in industrialized nations no longer are caused by the traditional or ‘major’ venereal diseases — syphilis, gonorrhea, chancroid, lymphogranuloma venereum and granuloma inguinale. Sexually active women in the United States presently stand a far greater chance of contracting a so-called ‘minor’ STD, such as herpes (HSV), chlamydia, ureaplasm, trichomoniasis, hepatitis B, and condyloma acuminata. |
