Popis: | Two-phase alloys have creep rupture lives which are many orders of magnitude longer than those of the pure parent metal at the same stress and temperature. This could be caused by the intergranular precipitates adversely affecting the ability of the high-angle grain boundaries to act as sources of vacancies and thereby inhibiting diffusional growth of creep cavities. This possibility is examined theoretically and a number of models are considered, each involving local plastic deformation around the intergranular precipitates. Increases in creep life approaching those observed in practice are predicted. |
