Popis: The Strait of Malacca is an important sea axis connecting the Indian Ocean with the South China Sea, it is providing a link between the Middle East, China, Japan, South Korea and the markets of Western countries. More than 65,000 ships cross the Strait of Malacca every year. Due to the establishment and development of the processes of globalization and the general trend towards democratization in the early 90s of XX century in the countries of the Strait of Malacca there was a trend towards a pragmatic perception of regional processes. ASEAN is gradually stabilizing the conflict factors of the Strait of Malacca. According to the International Maritime Bureau of Piracy, piracy in the Straits of Malacca increased significantly in the 1990s, but the number of reported incidents has declined markedly over the past decade. It is possible to designate different relationship to the trend in the development of military spending in the countries of the Malacca Strait in relation to the trend in military spending in Southeast Asia. The exclusion of the Strait of Malacca countries from the general trend of development of the countries of Southeast Asia is proof of the construction of a sub-regional model of security architecture.
