Popis: 1. 1. Tissues of Anolis carolinensis were analyzed for free amino acids after injection of lysine, α-aminoadipate, glutarate, glutaconate or acetate. 2. 2. All compounds except acetate produced glutamine in liver, kidney and muscle, but lysine was the most effective precursor in liver. 3. 3. Injection of [14C]lysine led to labelled glutamate, glutamine, α-amino adipate and two unidentified compounds. 4. 4. Whether α-aminoadipate was formed via pipecolic acid or saccharopine remains uncertain. 5. 5. Conversion of glutarate to glutamine may not proceed via acetyl-CoA since acetate produced no increase in glutamine or glutamate. 6. 6. Liver and kidney may emphasize different reactions in production of glutamine from lysine.
