Popis: Breastfeeding is a wise and natural strategy that gives the child affection, protection and nutrition. There are special situations in which the child can and / or is not able to suck, such as premature babies. When you cannot breastfeed, breast milk should be collected to be offered to the child. This study evaluated the microbiological quality for the presence of coliform microorganisms in expressed human milk (EHM) offered to premature babies and low birth weight infants in two hospitals in Juiz de Fora. 430 samples were analyzed at the Laboratory of Food Analysis and Water, Faculty of Pharmacy, Federal University of Juiz de Fora. 390 samples of human milk (90.7%) are in agreement with the pattern of absence of coliforms. We identified the presence of total coliforms in 40 samples (9.3%). The coliforms indicate contamination by non-observance of sanitary-hygienic procedures recommended by the National Network of Human Milk Bank, which translates into a risk factor for newborns of low weight and / or inpatients in these hospitals
