Popis:	The changing structure of the maize seed industry and the impact of public and private maize breeding research in eastern and southern Africa were analyzed. The results provide evidence of the growing dominance of private seed companies and hybrids as a result of the liberalization of the maize seed industry in the region. Participation of the private sector, however, was found to be much weaker in eastern Africa compared to southern Africa.
