Mechanism and energetics of heterogenous solid state processes of relevance for the chemical storage of solar energy have been investigated by means of a recently developed experimental set-up consisting of the combination of a UV/VIS light source with a thermobalance as well as by means of X-ray diffraction and electron microscopic techniques. As model reactions for these studies, the decomposition of siderite, FeCO3, as well as reversible reduction/reoxidation processes in the systems FeOx/Fe0 and RuO2/Ru0 are presented. |
