Popis: | The rat mammary gland has been studied extensively as a model for cancer. Factors such as the strain of rat, age, parity, hormones, and diet must all be considered in the proper interpretation of apparent increases in mammary gland neoplasms following exposure to chemicals, radiation, or environmental agents. Nonneoplastic mammary gland changes are also seen in rats. These nonneoplastic changes include degenerative, inflammatory, vascular, hyperplastic, miscellaneous, and toxicologic changes. The accurate assessment of mammary gland changes and understanding their importance is critical, particularly when evaluating drug-related toxicity and carcinogencity. |
