Popis: Diabetic wounds are difficult to heal and are at risk of repeated breakdown. It is estimated that almost 25% of wounds will fail to heal in spite of adequate revascularization and Offloading. Traditionally wound coverage has been carried out using split skin grafts. However over the last few decades a number of epidermal, dermal and composite skin substitutes have become available. Though most trials report ulcer size reduction and wound healing rates, what needs to be evaluated in future is the recurrence rates of ulcers and amputation rates. The Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS), the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Society for Vascular Medicine guidelines on diabetic foot management recommend biologics as adjunctive therapy.
