Popis: Practices and procedures in the use of substitute teachers in special education classes in American public schools are described. A substitute-teacher questionnaire was mailed to 401 randomly selected school systems in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Results regarding employment practices, procedural practices, and demographic information are provided and discussed. Further research directions and instructional implications are also discussed.
